During the Beirut port explosion in August 2020, anyone attempting to find more information about the event on social media was confronted with video after video of trending first-person POVs of the explosion. Acting as a meditation on how technology influences and propagates Orientalist thought regarding violence from the so-called “Middle East”, this video is an infinite loop composed of selections from the top trending videos, edited to remove any sight of the actual explosion, leaving only repeated gestures mediated through Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok compression.
